Exfoliation is key in prepping for your custom spray tan.

Deep skin exfoliation is extremely important in order to get your best sunless results. Exfoliation will provide a smooth surface on the top layer of your skin so that we can give you a gorgeous, even glow. Please use an oil-free salt scrub, sugar scrub, exfoliating gloves, dry brush or Resurface Exfoliating Mitt.

Do not use moisturizing bar soaps or Dove products.

 

• Shower or rinse off no sooner than 3 hours prior to your appointment. Showering the morning of is best. This gives your skin a chance to calm down and for your pores to close back up.

• Waxing or shaving needs to be completed at least 12 hours prior to your appointment.

• Your spray tan is always last! Manicures, pedicures, massages, facials, waxing and other skin/body treatments must be done prior to your spray tan.

• Do not apply any makeup, moisturizers, lotions, deodorant or perfume before your appointment.

• You will want to moisturize really well the night before, but not before your session.

• Can't rinse off before your appointment? Add-on the Exfoliating Mitt Treatment and we'll get your skin prepped without water.

When you arrive to your appointment, you will be asked to fill out a Client Information & Release form if it's your first time at Emberglow. You will then be taken to a private spray tanning room.

 

We will start with a complimentary consultation to discuss your skin tone and color preferences. If you have any skin sensitivities, allergies, peeling or dry skin, let us know. Also, if you are expecting or breastfeeding, let us know so we can make any adjustments needed.

 

After your consultation, you are free to get undressed to what is comfortable for you. Think about what tan lines you want or don't want. Disposables are complimentary and always available. Men are required to wear bottoms. We will then step out of the room to mix your custom spray tan formula.

For your comfort and safety, we have a high-capacity extraction fan booth running at all times. The spray tan room is well-ventilated and temperature can be adjusted as needed. Your comfort is our priority!

Your custom spray tan will be applied by hand with an airbrush spray gun. During the application, we will walk you through the movements needed to ensure a flawless spray tan! Don't worry, it's not hard! It's just lifting arms and moving legs. The application takes about 15 minutes. We will then dry you with warm air by hand through an air hose. Our formulas aren't tacky, so you're able to get dressed immediately after!

We recommend that you bring along or wear loose-fitting, dark clothing. Cotton is best! For footwear, think loose and comfy, too. Sandals are great. Don't walk out with knee-high boots on. If it's raining outside, please wear long sleeves, long pants and don't forget your umbrella! If you fail to bring the correct clothing, we will ask you to leave the studio naked. Okay, not really, but we are serious about not messing up the gorgeous tan!

Your rinse and shower time will depend on which formula was used. If you want your custom spray tan to look its best, you need to use the products that are recommended by Emberglow.

All of the retail products available were created specifically to enhance and maintain your custom spray tan. From your exfoliating mitt, to your shower cleanser and daily moisturizer, these products will give you the best results and guarantee to make your color last longer. You don't go from your hair color appointment to the drug store for shampoo and conditioner. Your spray tan is just the same. Use the right products and get the best result!

 

Remember: When you shower or rinse for the first time after your application, you will see the cosmetic bronzer wash away with the water. Don't worry, your tan isn't falling off! Just let the water run over your body and watch the water until it runs clear. Hop out and pat yourself dry. Your gorgeous glow is developing underneath that cosmetic color and will completely develop in 12-24 hours, depending on the formula used.

Again, how well you take care of your skin will determine how long your color will last. Using the right products is key! We can guarantee a gorgeous glow, but we cannot control what products you are using in your prep and maintenance process unless they are purchased directly through us.

 

Very important: Please do not use bar soaps or deodorant soaps, especially Dove or Olay brands. Any type of anti-aging, wrinkle or acne products may also cause your tan to fade faster or produce a blotchy result. Do not use products that contain oil, mineral oil, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), Retin-A, Alphy hydroxy acid (AHA), salicylic acid, glycolic acid or lactic acid. Using products that contain these ingredients may block the spray tan solution from being applied evenly to your skin and strip your spray tan.

 

• Moisturize your skin! You should be applying moisturizer at least twice each day after your tan.

• Avoid long, hot baths or hot tubs. This will decrease the longevity of your spray tan.

• Always pat yourself dry. Do not scrub your skin. This will only make your tan wear faster.

• If you want to even out your tan as it's naturally wearing, gently exfoliate every 2-3 days.
